I found this quote from Julia Child a while back and thought it was the most appropriate to hold onto it for my birthdya week. “A party without cake is just a meeting,” just about sums it up if you ask me. Not only does a party require cake, but wouldn’t it be so fun if all the meetings could be turned into parties just by adding cake?? So at your next staff meeting, maybe you should find out who’s on cake duty.
But really, I think more to the point, is that the sweetest part of the party is what people look forward to and expect when they are attending a party. In life, if we make things a little sweeter, we can make everything feel a lot more fun. One of my professional mentors told me once that you have to always leave [clients] with a sweet taste in their mouth. Meaning that at the end of the day, at the end of your transactions with them, they need to feel that things ended on a high note. Go the extra mile to do something sweet in your day to day interactions so that when you leave, not only do you feel good, but so do those you’ve come across in your travels.
So with that, I’m officially another year older, but still seeking out the wisdom of those who’ve gone before me. Today’s quote graphic is on a background of Benjamin Moore’s “Fancy Pants“ because fancy pants make everything in life just a little bit sweeter.
What ‘cake’ are you bringing with you to make life a party? Metaphorical or actual, however you want to spin it, cake is a good thing. (Or in the case of a Gluten Free birthday girl, pistachio gelato that rivals that of the flavors at the base of the spanish steps in Rome.) Hope your life is feeling a little sweeter and that your year is off to a fabulous start! Can’t wait to hear all about what adventures you’ve got planned for the year–I know we are excited to be planning some for ourselves!

As I mentioned, last weekend we went down to the Jersey Shore, if you followed along on Instagram (#SurprisePTurns30) you likely saw a lot of our adventures. If not, get ready for photo overload, because we had a blast!
As you can see, we explored all around town, enjoyed fun and games in the sand and on the boardwalk, took full advantage of all the local seafood and the ability to grill. We walked around a TON, relaxed a ton and explored the town.
In general we just had a much needed getaway that was chock full of goodness. I hope your MDW was as good as ours or better!
This weekend, we are heading up to Connecticut to witness the marriage of two beautiful people whom we love very much. I can’t wait to celebrate their love! What are you all up to this weekend?
It’s official! We made it through all the snow and the indecisive weather of the spring to the unofficial start of summer-and I for one couldn’t be happier! This early summer period is better than the peak of summer if you ask me. The temperatures are perfect Goldilocks temps and people are excited for the season.
What are your holiday weekend plans? We are hitting the beach! P is turning the big 3-0 next weekend so I rented us a little beach cottage on the Jersey Shore for this weekend as a little surprise for him, I already told him we are going, but I don’t think it has hit him that we are going to be 1 blocks from sand between our toes and wading in the waves.
Our plans are that simple… drive to the shore, unload the car and commence relaxing.
For our meals, I have worked out a simple menu and packed only fruits, veggies, burgers, dogs and snacks. We will be hitting up the local seafood market to pick up the fresh catch for our daily dinners and I’m salivating just thinking about it. There is a grill at the cottage that will be heavily utilized.
For our fun, there will be walks on the boardwalk, lounging in the sand, possible lawn games and potentially even some bike riding if I can convince P.
Our bags are packed, the car is loaded and I just have to make it through 5 more hours of work before we hit the road! I’m not excited for the traffic, but I am excited for what awaits us on the end!

As we’ve spent the last few days at Disney World for my birthday, I thought it was only fitting to use a quote from Walt.
Having dreams is only the beginning. Persuing them takes planning, dedication and most of all courage.
If you recently set some New Year’s resolutions, maybe now is the time to go back and add some dreams to that list. Sit down and think about what it will take to get them accomplished…maybe it takes more than a year, but you have to start somewhere!
