5 on Friday | A Week Away

This week I ended up taking a week off from blogging. I had posts scheduled, and I had great content to share, but when my Monday post that I had scheduled didn’t go live, I took it as a sign to focus on other things for the week and give myself a little break.

I did want to check in and let you know about a few great things I’ve read lately, that are definitely worth your time:

Master Bathroom, glass shower, industrial chic, shower door, black and white, clawfoot tub, details, beams

If you are looking for a little home inspiration, the gallery on this HomePolish project is definitely worth clicking through. The bathroom (pictured above) is  stunning. The painted detail in the master bathroom makes such a great graphic focal, and what’s not to love about the dining room? The only thing I don’t LOVE about this home is the graphic wall treatment they show… don’t get me wrong, it looks amazing, but I certainly don’t want to be responsible for dusting that!!

Living Room Inspiration, Decor, Progress, Before and After, Bright, Rolled Arm, Sofa, Table Rug, Blue White gray

I love this bright and cheerful design takeover post on Emily Henderson’s blog where Ginny shares her progress in her living room. Her inspiration is delicious and her sofa options are so helpful to see. I love EH’s blog–always worth the read!

Old Home, Remodel, Renovation, Before, Work in Progress, updating, fixer upper

You know I have a thing for words, and this post from In the Fields is great! Catherine shared so many amazing quotes about houses and homes in the post that I might have to work a few into upcoming rotations of my Monday posts.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, Holiday, holidays, hosting dinner party tablescape table setting gold pinecones pumpkins, turkey, deer,

The thing I love the most about this time of year is that it’s the time when people gather, and it is so fun to be the host! I love this holiday tablescape on the Fashionable Hostess. The post is great, with tips showing you how to easily transition your table from Thanksgiving to Christmas and Amanda has shared some beautiful images and details here, which is typical of her on her site… she has a good blog to read anytime.

blog blogger blogging office home office desk work space, life

I love this post from The Elign Avenue, Monica talks about the jobs she had before becoming a pro blogger and how everything she did before contributed to where she is now. I love this concept and feel it is so true. I often joke that if you could think of some random job that’s out there I’ve done it! Everything gives you knowledge and experience, you just have to make the best of it.  And isn’t her home office so cute?!

What have you been reading lately? I love to take Sundays as a good day to read through anything I may have missed on the blogosphere during the week. It makes me feel so inspired for the week ahead… so, feel free to share the links of what I should be reading this weekend in the comments, I love hearing from you!

5 on Friday|Ready for the Weekend!

Some weeks, the weekends are just more exciting than others.

JC Project Eats

1.This weekend, if you are in New Jersey, driving/train-ride distance to Jersey City, you should stop by! Right outside the town hall there will be LOADS of food, drinks and good times, for Project Eats Food Festival.

2. My Seattle Mariners are in town this weekend playing the Yankees, so P & I are headed out to the game on Sunday and will be clad in opposing teams’ gear. I love going to ballgames, it is always such a good time!

Also this weekend is the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. (I must’ve watched their Instagram post about it on repeat for 15 minutes yesterday.) Here are my picks:

3. Fashion Accessories: What woman doesn’t love a good handbag?! I was in a car accident back in early April, and ever since I’ve been looking for a small cross body-bag is stylish but that won’t weigh me down. These three are perfect. (Left to Right: Vince Camuto “Baily” in Roebuck, Kate Spade “Cedar Street-Monday” in Rose Jade, Rebecca Minkoff “Mini 5-Zip” in Latte.)

The second row is filled with over-sized scarves that look so cozy they’re making me itch for autumn. Classy enough to wear to work, cozy enough to nap in and perfect for jet-setting. What’s not to love? (L to R: Halogen Cashmere Travel Wrap, Halogen Brushed Floral Print Wrap, BP Geo Print Poncho.)

4. For the home, I’ve selected linens & entertaining pieces.

If you have been reading DBK for any length of time, you may already know that I am a bit of a linen snob. I love lush and decadent linens. Any of these would be great to update your master bedroom or refresh a guest bedroom. The bedding on the left is a reversible duvet set, solid either navy or grey on one side, patterned on the other, perfect to get you through the whole year! The sheet sets are simple, lux and cozy. The Creamsicle colored throw is the perfect way to add in a pop of color and texture to any bed or seating. Lastly, it’s always nice to have some decorative patterned towels to mix in with the solid ones, this option comes in a variety of colors to fit perfectly with any scheme.

In addition to my love for linens, I love to entertain. Hosting friends for anything from brunch to dinner, drinks to game night should be a treat, and with the right serving pieces, you can make prepping for any gathering less of a chore. I love these mason jar style serving pitchers, and they pair perfectly with monogrammed mason jars (with straws)! It doesn’t get much easier than topping off a pitcher and letting your guests help themselves! Copper Moscow Mule mugs make the perfect vessel for everything from it’s refreshing namesake to a hot buttered rum in the Fall, no bar cart should be without them!

5. When we aren’t busy shopping, eating, or rooting for the away team, I’m going to be perusing through our new travel books, purchased on Prime Day, they should be arriving today, and if there is one thing I love more than cozy linens and a scarf made for jet-setting, it’s layering on that scarf, crawling into that bed with a glass of wine and a travel book, dreaming about destinations afar.

What are your plans this weekend? Will you be shopping or heading out to any fairs or festivals? Or maybe just grabbing a book and heading to the beach? Whatever you are doing, I hope you get your fill and enjoy the weekend!

A Welcome Weekend

Hope you all had a great week! I know it has been quite busy around here with lots of meetings, work and life happening. This weekend is a welcome break. Well, as much of a break as I will allow myself to take — it’s so hard to sit still when there are projects to be done! So, here is my 5 on Friday list for the weekend!

A look at the gallery wall as it was before.

A look at the gallery wall as it was before.

1.This weekend I think I will work on getting some of our art hung. As I mentioned yesterday, we have quite a few pieces leaning against the wall waiting to take their places.

2. I would like to look into light-fixture and mirror options for the entryway so that we can finish that project for real and at least make some final decisions on these pieces.

3. We purchased a light fixture for the Kitchen that I will attempt to install — It is just so dark in there that we really need a better level of light to really work in that space.

4. I have some client floor plans to finalize details on.

5. And this weekend, I would like to actually plan a menu for the week so that I’m not planning things day of and cooking from whatever we have on hand. Although it is good to do this every now and again to really clean out the pantry and the freezer, I don’t enjoy doing it regularly.

And if there is any time left, maybe I will read or knit, or dare I say both! Happy Friday, friends; have an awesome weekend!

Five on Friday

1. I have been working hard to follow and participate with more blogs and people in the design community. It is a great way to find inspiration and make connections with people that are interested in the things that you are interested in. So today on instagram (@designbykrystle) I’m sharing four accounts that I love.

Instagram ff 2-20

@InteriorDesignCommunity is a great resource to find other designers/bloggers in this industry. They share inspiring people, spaces and quotes daily, and, if you are looking for more people to follow, they just posted a list of 100 interior-design blogs to follow (we are #55 on the list!).

@Nis5a is a kitchen and bath designer in Philadelphia that I randomly found on instagram a few months back. I love the design projects and details she shares, and I hope you do too!

@KristenFDavisDesigns works with colors, patterns, shapes and so much more, doing custom art and paint installations for clients and designers. Her insta-feed is always a great source of inspiration and admiration for me. You can find her blog here, too.

@EarnestHomeCo_ is a blogger I’ve followed in the background for a while, and have been trying to comment on more and more. She does beautiful work and just posted about her new home office here. Go check her out!

2. My hair is so long that yesterday’s sloppy top knot actually hurt my head. When I took my hair down at the end of the night, it has never felt so good. So! I am looking for a new do-I’m thinking of a long bob with minimal long layers around the front, and potentially even adding some highlights… care to weight in? (Pictures from pinterest.)

3. Today we have officially owned our condo for a year, which is incredible. It was a long and very trying process to get where we are, and we have had a love/hate relationship with our space, but it is mostly love and the space has really been transformed in the last year to really represent us! Can’t wait to bring you more projects from our tiny home 🙂

4. My childhood puppy is really really old. She turned 15 this past December and unfortunately her age is starting to wear on her. I wish I could jet off to Seattle to snuggle with her and soak up every last minute available, but it looks like it isn’t going to work out. Thank goodness for technology, my mom is going to Facetime with me so I can see her before it gets too bad. If you don’t know the love of a dog, it is one of the most unconditional loves you can experience, and that girl really has my heart. I’m thankful that P & I have our Brantley bub to cuddle with and take away some of the hurt.

5. This weekend marks the end of our January Cure. Yes, I do realize it is February, but when we went out of town in January, our cure never really got back on track. So, our dinner with friends is this weekend and next week I can share all of the progress we made around the house, as well as the details from our dinner!
